Ian joined the firm in 2001. He acts in the areas of company and business law, mergers and acquisitions, restructures and contracts. He has also built a strong practice in the area of insolvency, acting for liquidators, receivers and other insolvency practitioners in regard to issues requiring business solutions.
Ian’s work has involved advising company directors on their rights and obligations, advising the State Government on BassLink and other State Government matters in Victoria and Tasmania, and a five-year stint as the Acting Crown Solicitor in Tasmania. Furthermore, he has performed significant work with public companies, both listed and unlisted, and overseas companies investing in Australia.
Ian holds a degree in Law with Honours from the University of Tasmania, is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a director of a number of public and private companies and not for profit organisations.

- advising in the restructuring of businesses in a variety of industries;
- advising directors of companies on their legal position and under corporate governance requirements such as Coles Myer Ltd board dispute;
- advising parties in the acquisition of power generating assets, the establishment of BassLink and windpower assets;
- advising on the sale of fibre-optic cable to Telstra Corporation;
- advising listed companies and their directors on rights and obligations under the ASX Listing Rules, Corporations Act and the general terms; and
- advising insolvency practitioners on various matters in particular their obligations under the Corporations Act, IPAA guidelines and the appointment documents.
